El Camino is one of Chevrolet’s most popular trucks, but unfortunately it was discontinued in 1987. After three decades of disappearing from the market, it is speculated that the American automaker will revive the popular truck as 2017 model. The rumored rendering of the truck has even been circulating online for several years.
It is said that Chevy will not prepare any significant design changes for 2017 El Camino. Instead, weight reduction will be the ultimate focus of the new model. It will incorporate carbon fiber and aluminum frame to make the chassis lighter as well as more modern.
But of course the truck will not roll to the market without any design improvement. The truck will not look out of date because it will come with more attractive grille, LED lights as well as larger air intake at the front. Furthermore, it is also possible that the front and rear bumper will come with different color with the main body.
The biggest changes will exist inside because the car truly needs some more up to date technology. It will come with touch screen, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and smartphone compatibility. Chevy also plans to add more leg room for both the front and rear passengers, which means, there is a high chance that the dimension of the truck will increase.
Just like the manufacturer’s newer cars, new El Camino also will be packed with various safety features. Let’s expect the truck to come with better airbags, cruise control as well as rear view camera.
2017 Chevrolet El Camino will be available in four trim levels—SS, Black Knight, Royal Knight and Super Spot. As for the engine, two options will be available. The first one is a 6.0 L V8 with 360 HP while the second on is a 3.2 L V6 that delivers 300 HP. It seems like both engines will be paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. With this specification, the new El Camino’s direct competition will be the likes of Ford F-150, Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara.
Price and Release Date
Initially, 2017 Chevy El Camino was rumored to be released early this year. However, 2017 is almost end and new information regarding the truck’s release date is nowhere to be heard. So, if Chevrolet indeed has the plan to bring El Camino back, maybe it will in another one or two year and the price will start at around $20,000.
