Car’s technology evolves from simple to complex design and less to more powerful engine. In order to test the car’s endurance and capability, there is competition to let the car goes around track for 24 hours. This is where Le Mans becomes promising competition since long time ago. For 2021 LeMans, FIA plans to offer new class, which is hypercar segment.
This news brings many opinions from the car’s manufacturer, racing team, and FIA themselves. To let hypercar in this competition, all teams and manufacturer have to work hard in order to deliver real hypercar. People think hypercar is vehicle with four-wheel driving mode, bigger engine capacity, and powerful powertrain. Moreover, hypercar seems to be the car with fancy and elegant design where you only see on event as prototype. This car is not what you see on dealer to purchase. That is why hypercar class on LeMans competition becomes challenging category.
2021 LeMans through FIA will determine the type of car and other specific rules related to this idea. Until now, people see hypercar as advanced aesthetic car that turns into reality. However, this competition is at stake if aesthetic aspect becomes the reason to include hypercar segment. The car is more than fancy, though it’s still in prototype or development stage.
What kind of car that people expect to be on this new LeMans competition? Well, sport car manufacturers express their interest to participate in this category. They are Aston Martin, Porsche, McLaren, and many more. Aston Martin stated that their car would be ready in time when competition starts to begin.
Until now, FIA still holds LMP1 class for the cars with similar specs to hypercar. Toyota is only principal manufacturer in this class and there are few other private teams that compete regularly. Many big names in car industry do not involve because of high cost. With new class on 2021 LeMans, hypercar is estimated to have lower budget, but in high competitive event.
